TAKA

HERITAGE CRAFTSMANSHIP
Taka upholds the tradition of heritage artisan craft and the idiosyncrasies of the handmade. The intimacy and tactile nature of handcrafted items serve as an antidote to the impersonal aesthetic of mass production, as well as preserving bodies of artistic knowledge. All Taka leather footwear, accessories and apparel are crafted with heritage artisans working from their own independently-owned small workshops in Los Angeles.
ECOLOGICAL PRACTICES
Taka leather goods are made with vegetable-tanned leather. This is a traditional, ecological process that preserves the natural quality of full-grain leather without chemicals or heavy metals. This gentle method also has aesthetic value as it reveals the innate qualities of the leather and functions as a raw canvas, aging and developing a personal patina over time.
Taka's approach to color is minimal, choosing an abbreviated palette to minimize the impact of dyes and build awareness around this process. Undyed leather and fibers are featured not only as environmental minimalism, but also as a design element that reveals the subtle beauty of raw color. We only work with biodegradable, natural raw materials.
UTILITARIAN DESIGN
Taka follows a minimalist design philosophy, prioritizing streamlined silhouettes that eliminate superfluous design elements. Taka's capsule collection is designed to form the core of a functional wardrobe. These artifacts value freedom of movement, designed for daily use and the development of an intimate relationship over time. The close relationship that comes with daily wear sculpts the artifact to the wearer, evolving it's character over time.
UNISEX WEAR
Taka emphasizes universal silhouettes that are adaptive to physiology but free of gender stereotypes, moving past traditional aesthetic biases of femininity and masculinity.
